PLAY, CONNECT, GROW - TOGETHER

Join us for Saturday Morning Play Groups this summer in Unceded Chinook Land. So-Called, Portland, Oregon.

What To Expect

Little Folx Playgroups are cozy, child-led gatherings for infants, toddlers, and their grownups.

Inspired by RIE’s foundational values of respect, connection, and curiosity—but with a critical eye toward accessibility and real-world parenting—our playgroups create space for open-ended exploration, mutual care, and collective growth. We honor children's autonomy and agency while holding space for caregivers navigating the messy, beautiful work of raising little ones outside mainstream parenting culture.

  • Each session starts with a slow, gentle welcome. There’s no big circle tie or forced activities - just a cozy, open space for littles to settle in and explore at their own pace.

We set out simple, open-ended toys and materials (nothing flashy or overstimulating) so the children can follow their own interests, climb, build, wander, or just sit and watch if that’s what feels good.

Grownups are invited to sit back (on the floor chairs), stay present, and trust the process - observing more than directing, stepping in only when support is needed.

We usually close with a few minutes of winding down together.

  • Playgroups are organized by developmental milestones, not strict age brackets. You’ll find sessions are grouped by where your child is at:

    • Non-rolling & Early movers

    • Rolling and Crawling

    • Wobbling & Walking

    • Confident walkers and Early Climbers

We trust that every child moves through milestones in their own time and our groups honor that.

  • Yes, guests (like a partner, grandparent, nanny or close friend) are welcome. We simply ask that visitors help maintain a calm vibe by limiting conversation during playtime so the focus stays on the children and the space we are creating together.

  • That’s completely ‘normal’ and celebrated here.

Observation is a powerful way children learn about the world.

We honor every child's pace, whether they’re exploring boldly or quietly taking it all in from the sidelines.
